DuPage Railroad Safety Council Goal:
50% Reduction in the Total Number of Railway-Related Fatalities in 10 Years (2016-2026)
The following conclusions can be derived from the 7-year 2012-2018 average railroad-related fatalities.

- Highway-railroad crossing fatalities represent slightly less than 25% of all rail-related fatalities.

This new law will save lives and help prevent injuries. Most rail safety measures addressed hazards that were located directly at highway-railroad grade crossings. However, since 1997, more deaths occur on railroad rights-of-way, away from crossings than at actual grade crossings.
