“The Institute for Transportation Research and Education (ITRE) at North Carolina State University, in collaboration with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), researched… [trespassing behavior] in the ‘Rail Network Trespass Statewide Severity Assessment and Predictive Modeling’ study.” This study “used motion-activated thermal video camera systems” to study all trespassers–especially uninjured trespassers not reported to the FRA. The study supports the use of anti-trespassing pads and can inform educational outreach based on local conditions.
